Self Care Isn’t Selfish

Day 91…

Some of the beginning teachers I work with are exhausted.  They teach in low-achieving schools and the pressure has been on everyone to “raise test scores.”  So it shouldn’t surprise me when a couple of them were at the end of their ropes last night.  Fortunately the Thanksgiving holidays begin Friday at 3:00.  A chance to let go of the struggle and just take care of themselves.

In dealing with those who are undergoing great suffering, if you feel “burnout” setting in, if you feel demoralized and exhausted, it is best, for the sake of everyone, to withdraw and restore yourself. The point is to have a long-term perspective.
