Learning Response Ability

Day 92…

In our fast paced living there seems so much reaction, so little time for considered responses.

If you give your life as a wholehearted response to love, then love will wholeheartedly respond to you.   Marianne Williamson

What is Art?  It is the response of man’s creative soul to the call of the Real.   Rabindranath Tagore

I’ve come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element in the classroom.  It’s my daily mood that makes the weather.  As a teacher, I possess a tremendous power to make a child’s life miserable or joyous.  I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration.  I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal.  In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated and a child humanized or de-humanized.   Dr. Haim Ginott

  1. I was previously an Education major, (for only a year) and I too think that the teacher makes all the difference. I was quite put off, as I realized that many of my education professors were great with the theory aspect, but not so much with the follow-through. I concluded through my observations & experiences that all teachers fall into one of two categories: a) They teach because they enjoy power, control, and making choices about all in their grasp… or b) They are nearly selfless, aren’t working for money or power, and treat each child as an individual as they burn themselves out.

Either way, I am not saying it’s an easy profession. It’s difficult. And.. I am now back to studying Psychology.

I greatly enjoy reading your posts– good luck with the novel!
