Magic Wands and the Power of Words

Day 146…

In writing group last night I passed out magic wands, offering the idea that with a little magic we can change what is blocking us.  The fear that feels so solid can be made into a fluid or essence, allowing  us to swim or dance with what we once felt boxed in by.  And because we write I suggested that our pens can be magic wands to affect the change we want.

Then I came home to the President’s speech in Tucson.  Obama is a writer.  He knows the power of words.  From his own magic pen he shared  uniting words, human connections, and a father’s image of nine-year-old Christina.

Better than a thousand hollow words, is one word that brings peace.

We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the vitriolic words and actions of the bad people, but for the appalling silence of the good people.
Martin Luther King, Jr.

Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.
Robert Frost

  1. “With a little magic we can change what’s blocking us.” This point really hits home because so much of what’s blocking us is within ourselves and stems from our fears. I’ll think of your blog post the next time I have a writer’s block!

  2. What a great blog! I love the idea of passing out magic wands. Sounds so much like something I would do. 🙂
