Sustainapalooza

Day 239…

Today is Sustainapalooza…What a funny name.  Organizations are exhibiting at Sciport, the city’s hands-on science center.  I will take a shift at the Community Gardens table (as Ms. Information.)

Actually there is a growing network of community gardens, sponsored by churches, schools, and neighborhoods.  I really only know about Valencia’s youth garden.

But what I do know is exciting.  Kids who have taken ownership of the work a garden entails.  Their latest project over Spring Break was to harvest, demonstrate preparation with their own “cooking shows” and serve a variety of quiches to the senior citizens and younger children who come to the recreation center.  Way cool!

So I’ll take my enthusiasm.  Maybe that’ll make up for my lack of knowledge about the rest of the network.

The best place to find God is in a garden. You can dig for him there.
George Bernard Shaw
The garden suggests there might be a place where we can meet nature halfway.
